PARTNERSHIPS

Financial support is crucial, not only to a community organisation’s ongoing survival, but also to the capacity of organisation members to take ownership in identifying goals and conducting the work necessary to develop and execute plans to achieve those goals.
Forming enduring partnerships with organisations which can provide mentorship and financial assistance is, therefore, of primary importance in community development. In this spirit, while there have been a number of organisations which have provided support for the Shed, Sunshine Coast Council and the Australian Men’s Shed Association stand out as key entities with which Mapleton Men’s Shed members have forged significant, ongoing partnerships.
These rewarding partnerships have been crucial in enabling consecutive Shed committees to fast track the development of the old Mapleton Forestry Office complex into a viable and flourishing Men’s Shed facility – thereby fostering and consolidating social capital among members in the form of strong and fulfilling relationships. Ultimately, it is these relationships which provide Mapleton Men’s Shed members with an enhanced sense of belonging in their local community.

The Australian Men's Shed Association

The Australian Men’s Shed Association (AMSA) has a core ethos of sharing information between sheds and those communities wishing to establish and operate a Men’s Shed. When the idea of establishing a Men’s Shed in Mapleton was first proposed, AMSA provided the initial support to local Shed aspirants in the form of advice and mentorship. Further, AMSA facilitated the granting of significant funding through the Australian Government National Shed Development Program (NSDP) for building refurbishment, re-roofing of the Barracks Building and the provision of tools and equipment.

Sunshine Coast Council

Sunshine Coast Council with its focus on capacity building through Community Development and the provision of community facilities stands as the major financial supporter of Mapleton Men’s Shed, largely, through its Community Grants programs.
Projects sponsored by Sunshine Coast Council include:

•    Electricity, water and road repairs
•    Septic treatment plant installation
•    Community storage shed and installation
•    Re-roofing of Workshop Building
•    Galvanised water supply tanks installation
•    MMS Retrospective Museum funding
•    Rear courtyard restructure
